Secretariat's Jockey, Ron Turcotte

a really terrific program
I truly enjoyed this program...Ron Turcotte was the legendary rider of Secretariat but also Riva Ridge the year before and winner of 3,000 races before he realized his greatest fear and was paralyzed. This program traces his career as a dual story line to his visiting the 3 races of a current triple crown season. It shows him interacting with current jockeys as well as fans. This movie also has great footage of Secretariat and current video of the owner Penny Chereny. Its a documentary that spans many decades and is heart warming and heart breaking and ultimately triumphant. Recommended

Tech stuff... 16x9 Widescreen and the current footage looks HD very nice indeed, with a lovely score.

SECRETARIATS JOCKEY
REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE,WITH RON TURCOTTE AND BIG RED.
WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO A FRIEND.
RON TURCOTTE,GOT TO RIDE INTO HISTORY,WITH THE GREATEST RACE HORSE,THAT EVER LIVED.

Stripper

An Unconventional Story
I bought this because a friend of mine is in it - she's one of the audition participants and came in at #2 at the end. The story, while fact based, is interesting in the sense that what people often think of as "just another Las Vegas story" can have many sides to it. It does a good job of telling the behind the scenes story of what Las Vegas was like in the post-mob days as the bean counters were taking over the casino business. The characters (women) are a good cross section of those who try to get into the entertainment field. While I think my friend should have won (of course!) it is still a good story, and the 'scenery' is outstanding! I would recommend it to those interested in what it can take to get into the 'business'.

Oldie but goodie
I saw this a few decades ago and its still interesting to watch today. It gives an insight on the first annual strippers convention and all the competition from all over.

V
Yes, I just wanted to say what a wonderful movie I thought that it was very well done. I'm a person who believes that women should always feel good about themselves and have healthy body images. Nowadays, lots of females have body image issues. Perhaps, even myself a little, but I believe that women should always feel the very best about themselves and work with what they've got to achieve their maximum potential. I believe that the females in the movie basically exuded that they felt that they (and they alone) were truly lovable. That's how I tend to view myself, as well. I wouldn't (necessarily) do what they do (unless it was with someone special to me) and someone whom I would like to be in a monogamous relationship with. My Dad always said that when women have it, they should flaunt it. I believe that the messages made by those women were more exemplary of that fact Even though Dad didn't mean it (necessarily) to that extreme.

Thanks.

Absolutely entertaining
This is probably the best ever gayfilm. First of all, the entire cast is so talented. Secondly, these guys are hot. The story line was very well planned in regards to keeping the murderer a secret until almost the end. Icant wait for season 2.

Bridge To The Sun

Moving love story set in war-torn WW2 Japan
This autobiographical story of American Gwen Harold's marriage to diplomat Terry Terasaki is a very realistic look at the cultural clash between Japan and the United States before and during World War 2. In the midst of racial prejudice and differing beliefs & practices, is a beautifully sincere love story between two people of vastly different backgrounds and ethnicity, told with honesty and integrity. Carroll Baker is very emotional as the conflicted Gwen struggling to accept Japanese customs as an unwelcome American wife. James Shigeta, always marvelous, gives a wonderful performance in stilted English (for this part only, as he is an American) as the proud diplomat Terry, a Japanese national, who loves his wife and child so deeply yet cannot let go of his inherent restraint even at the end when he needs Gwen the most. Filmed in black and white which makes the war scenes and 1940s era very believable, this is a very good film told from the unique perspective of an American...

Bridge to the Sun
I recall seeing this film when I was a teenager, and enjoyed it just as much when I revisited it just recently.
The story is lovely but tragic, and I always enjoy a love story especially one based on a true life situation.
So enjoy

Loved It!!!
I truly enjoyed this movie and the book as well. Too often when a movie is made from a book a lot is lost in transmitting it to a screen play, but this movie did follow the book, I will recommend it to others.

Facing The Giants [HD]

Facing the Giants Delivers the Goods and the Word
There are basically 10 reasons "Facing the Giants" is a movie that every family in America should watch together:

#1. This is a movie about overcoming great obstacles, something every family faces.

#2. This is a movie that does not rely on sex, violence, or profanity to carry a weak or boring plot.

#3. This is a movie that examines the relationships between family members, and offers sound Biblical advice on how to make those relationships more successful.

#4. This is a movie void of famous actors with large egos to build upon, which means cast was able to focus on the overall production and not worry about the performance of one actor or actress.

#5. This is a film that stirs all kinds of emotions and can definitely clean out clogged up tearducts.

#6. This is a movie with some great football action scenes that rival any larger, Hollywood, big-budget film.

#7. This is a movie written and produced by...

Great Movie
A football coach who is facing being fired and having trouble conceiving a child with his wife feels overwhelmed and turns to Christ to help him through the tough times in his life. The message of the movie is that while you can't control what happens in life, you must give it your all anyway. He decided that whether or not his team wins, whether or not he keeps his job, whether or not he can have children, he will do his best in every endeavor in his life and glorify God regardless of the outcomes.

His wife is played by a sweet and lovely actress who faces her own hardship as a woman who wants children and is having trouble conceiving. Many of the teammates have personal issues they must also overcome.

This is a great family film, very uplifting, and I'm glad I came across it.

With God all things are possible
Where can I begin? This movie is awesome. Christian or non-Christian, you can't helped but be moved by this movie. The plot, the characters, the message, everything is just great. God truly had a hand in this movie. I can't wait to get the DVD so that I can watch it over and over. My eight year old son sat and watched the movie as if he was glued to the screen. Get the movie. Watch it with your family. God will change your life. Check out Flywheel as well.

The Majorettes

Decent... kind of
Well, I came in watching this movie with very low expectations, and I got, for the most part, what I expected. There are some nice moments, like the first kill in the convertible, and the dialogue between the two kids before that, but mainly, the movie was a by the book slasher, and then the end was a by the book revenge flick. The only thing that wasn't by the book in this movie was a few nice twists towards the end, even though they weren't big enough to save the movie from being rather bland. The acting for the most part was bottom of the barrel, with the exception of a few people. And the movie just seemed like it wanted to be to main stream for its own good. Some parts just cried out for a Troma style over the top feel, but instead they were stuck in total seriousness. That killed the mood, considering that this is a movie about a man killing majorettes. Oh, and don't expect gore. There is blood, but that's it.
One thing that really bugged me was the disk it self...

One of the worst 80s cheese fests
Slasher films are known for their who-dun-it plot, gory slash and death scenes, and most of the time a cat and mouse chase scene betwen the killer and the victim/ or between the killer and the final girl/guy. Many slasher films are atmospheric, creepy, suspenseful and/or gory. The Majorettes is one of those bad cheesy flicks that is nt worth a dime. I feel that there are some great scenes in this film but those can never save this from being unsophisticated, stupid, having horrid acting( like they picked random people off the street!). There are some very good looking females but they are supposed to be butone twirlers!!?! Which is really cheesy seeing as right in the beginning of this the are TRYING to dance to some awful 80s keyboard song and none of them can act or dance or twirl a butone for that matter. One great chase scene follows and then a death scene but the plot falls apart bc of the bad acting and the stupid script. This is not worth time and money especially when you can...

The Majorettes
The Majorettes is an 80's horror film, so it was a must watch for me. The first fifteen minutes has alot of storylines going on so it can get confusing and seem like there is about three stories going on. The first kill was very well done, the killer favors slashing the throats of the majorettes and then baptizing them into water. It also has faint religious overtones but this film has so much going on that its hard to follow. One girl was set to inherit half a million dollars and that story gets lost in the shuffle. Overall, it can be an enjoyable film but has way too many stories going on and it can get confusing.

The Mirror Has Two Faces

"I tried that once, he thought I had something in my eye."
Streisand's third directorial effort was greeted with surprisingly vicious reaction from both fans and critics, nearly all of whom immediately labeled it as an over-the-top vanity piece. It also had considerable difficulty at the box office. After opening with strong numbers, the $45 million budgeted film took a nose dive and did not recover. It ended up taking in $46 million domestically ($65 million worldwide), which was a respectable take, but far from the blockbuster status of films like A STAR IS BORN or THE PRINCE OF TIDES. When considering all of the above information, it's a bit surprising to discover that the film is nothing more than an entertaining and heart-felt romantic comedy. In hindsight, it's hard to understand why a such a harmless and light-weight film became such a lighting rod for scathing reviews and harsh comments.

While the storyline is predictable, the movie is actually very well-done with a brisk pace, compelling characters, and a witty screenplay...

A charming story of personal growth and self-acceptance.
Barbra Streisand is not dowdy, yet her perfection in assuming the role as a lonely, middle-aged woman (Rose) is flawless. Rose is an excellent and popular college teacher. She knows how to teach, the way to involve and enchant a rowdy class, and she would rather watch baseball than go on another "dead end" date.

Jeff Bridges (Greg) is the handsome, yet exceedingly boring teacher. Most of the students in his math classes sleep, pass notes, chat. He is a lonely man, but all of his interpersonal relationships end as the woman moves on. He believes it is because he chooses stunning woman and then becomes intimate. He decides to find a perfect mate, and the main criterion is that she be ugly. His campaign begins with an advertisement. Claire is Rose?s sister, and she responds to the ad as if she were Rose.

Rose lives with her mother Hanna Morgan, played by Lauren Bacall, who did receive an Oscar nomination for the role of a selfish, self-absorbed, snob...

Mirror Has Two Faces
While this movie will never win any acclaim or awards, it was a light romantic comedy that hit a home run with me. I liked Jeff Bridges and Barbara Streisand together. They were funny and had good rapport together on screen.
